Japan and china are very modern so they cant be in the race.

i would say India!!! i got a feeling they will do some really big progress with there country. my feel is that, there will be a big player in the medical field. some of the best doctors in the USA are from India.

I think Vietnam will be the next up coming potential for the highest progress. Their government is encouraging outside business and Vietnam's economy is really booming right now.

Their labour is cheap and so is the cost of living. The people learn very quick and are very hard workers. It is a very friendly safe country with many interesting historical sites to see.

It has a lot of natural resources and has a long coast line. The potential for oil off shore is very great too. All in all Vietnam is a good place to invest your money in.

The question is potential to progress not the highest growth from under develop country.

If that is the case I would say Singapore. Korea and Japan would come in close but due to language problems and close economies (they only support their own stuff) they may already reached their potential.

Singapore on the other hand is a small english speaking country, with great telecommunication and fianacial foundation. Stable economy and strikes are unheard of. Small country that is managed well by its goverment.

Anyway you see it ... it going to continue to progress well.

Just my 2 cents

Depends what you mean by progress, but China will outshine all the other countries in the region economically. Cheap labor and the potential for higher quality goods. Many Asian countries are pretty far along in terms of progress. People in Japan for example live significantly longer than folks in the US.

I think it's Vietnam! Since joining WTO, Vietnam has been sooo popular in the world, and many newspapers have headlines about the incredible development of this country! And I myself think that, in the future, Vietnam will progress much more than its neighbors, which may causes surprise to many other Asian countries! ===> just my own opinion!

North Korea!

Why? Because it is the most backward country in Asia and once communism falls there, their people will be assimilated into a unified Korea (not unlike Germany) and they have much to gain.

Now S. Korea is not really backward and with their wealth and extra manpower, a unified Korea has the highest potential to progress.

For those of you saying India, China & Japan... well India & China are already giants and it is is their vast population holding them back.

Japan is already on top... it cannot go much farther. It is facing major competition from S. Korea & China.

Vietnam (along with Cambodia & Laos) has almost no 'big brother' to propel them forward, like N. Korea has with S. Korea!

My answer is based on facts from traveling & observing in that region... but is is dependent upon the North Korean regime falling.

No, Japan isn't the only first international Asian u . s .. South Korea, Taiwan, and Singapore are additionally greater countries. inspite of them, the final public of Asian countries (and the final public of all countries) are nonetheless seen to be coming up countries or "0.33 international".
